Dog Beach Closed Due to Sewage Spill

— A sewage spill in to the San Diego River on Monday, December 27, prompted the closure of Dog Beach in Ocean Beach. The affected areas of the beach were still closed four days later. The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health posted beach closure notification signs shortly after the spill. The beach closure affected the area of the beach between the San Diego river jetty and lifeguard tower number five. Although the Department of Environmental Health advises that beach users avoid contact with ocean and bay waters in the closure area and where closure signs are posted, there are still a few brave surfers in the closed area.
