Cop Demonstrates Unsafe Riding, 1966

A cycle cop demonstrates unsafe riding in a parking lot, 1966. Same year, a columnist at our local daily observed that, "If you have a California license to drive a car, you are eligible to operate a motorcycle, motor scooter, or motor bike; but if you have only a license to drive a motorcycle, you are not licensed to drive an auto."

From 1960 to 1965, registered motorcycles increased from 76,000 to 265,000. Fatal and injurious motorcycle accidents during that period jumped from 3269 to 11,554.
