— Oakland mayor Jerry Brown, the ex-governor and former presidential candidate now regarded as favored to capture the Democratic nomination for state attorney general in next week's primary, has been picking up sizable support from some wealthy San Diegans. The list includes La Jolla's Stephen and Susan Polis Schutz, formerly of Colorado, who got very rich by selling their online greeting-card outfit Bluemountain.com for $900 million in 1999; they each gave the mercurial ex-governor $2000 in March. Ted Roth of Roth Capital Partners contributed $1000. Rancho Santa Fe's Art Laffer, known for his Laffer curve theory of economics popular with Ronald Reagan, kicked in $1396. Sempra Energy gave $5600 on March 16.
