Hit the road

— By far the best-traveled member of San Diego County's congressional delegation is Darrell Issa, who ranks 24th among all House members on a list of taxpayer-paid travel compiled on Washington's PoliticalMoneyLine website. Since 2001, multimillionaire Issa has been to such places as Bahrain, Hungary, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Austria, Czech Republic, Ireland, Thailand, and Ukraine. The total cost was $78,639. By comparison, Issa's GOP colleague Duncan Hunter spent $11,190 going to destinations that included Belgium, Italy, and the United Kingdom. The disgraced Randy "Duke" Cunningham required just $1091 on a single trip to France and Germany in 2001. Democrat Bob Filner racked up $10,711 traveling to places like Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Panama as part of his duties for the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. Fellow Democrat Susan Davis spent $6274 on trips to countries including Iraq and Uzbekistan.
