Dinky Crowd at Moby Appearance

M-Theory Music on Juniper in South Park gets interesting musicians to perform. In the past year, I've seen locals Louis XIV, Steve Poltz, and Gregory Page. National acts make it there, too. And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead did a karaoke performance there.

On May 7, Eisley did an in-store appearance. Hundreds of people showed. A lot of them watched from outside because there was no space left inside the store. The following day, I was surprised that there were fewer than 100 people there to see Moby. That night, he played a sold-out show at 4th & B.

Moby did a 30-minute Q&A, answering questions about his religious beliefs, his new book and CD, and other bands. While he answered one question, a guy in a car drove by and yelled out, "Eminem!" Everyone laughed, including Moby. The two musicians have had a long feud, which Eminem brought up in song lyrics as well as a Grammy speech. Moby has remained quiet on the subject.

When someone asked him about the tea shop he opened in New York, he said, "It was with an ex-girlfriend of mine. We had been dating and then broke up on the day the shop opened. At first it was hard. Conversations were, like, me asking, 'Should we serve scones? Who are you sleeping with now?' Things are fine now."
