Coachella Slasher at Large

"All eight tires on both of our vans were slashed," says an FM-94/9 employee. "No other tires in the area were slashed."

During the two-day Coachella Music and Arts Festival (April 30 and May 1), the 94/9 DJ crew interviewed band members from Kasabian, New Order, and the Bravery at a house near the concert in Indio. Goldenvoice, the promoters, agreed with L.A.'s KROQ that no other radio stations would be allowed inside the venue.

"KROQ is hurting the rest of the alternative stations," said one radio exec whose station was denied access. "You can't even pick up KROQ in Indio. This was supposed to be an international music festival, but KROQ forced everyone to stay out. Coachella should have had a tent with all the stations from around the world who wanted to come and interview bands.... It's the same thing with their [summertime] Weenie Roast or Almost Acoustic Christmas [multi-band] concerts; KROQ tells the bands that if they play for them they can't play any other radio-station shows around that time, including for stations in San Diego."

KROQ operations manager Gene Sandbloom and Goldenvoice principal Paul Tollett did not respond to a request for comment.
