Singer Steve "Crabby" Cabler Was the Only American (Out of Eight) Who Survived

Singer Steve "Crabby" Cabler was the only American (out of eight) who survived after a terrorist bomb exploded in a Bali nightclub while he was on a surf vacation in October 2002. It took 180 lives, including his best friend and band manager Steve Webster.

"I was actually standing closer to the bomb than my manager. I was, like, 20 feet away. The roof caved in on him. I had to claw my way out from the cars and the bodies and [the collapsed] roof.... I had hearing damage...But I've worked through it."

Now Crabby is ready to go back on the road with the Orange County band he founded in 1995, El Centro, now known as the Uprising.

He describes the music as "metal-induced punk."

Tomorrow marks the first time Crabby has played in Tijuana. "We played at the Cox Arena four years ago, opening for Bad Religion."

He said the Crabby story is becoming a movie. "I'm working with Keanu Reeves's stepdad." Last week one of Crabby's songs appeared on an episode of CSI: Miami thanks to Carlsbad's world-famous skateboarder. "Tony Hawk always bumps our music. He was an actor in that episode...a skateboarder who got murdered. We want him to use our music in his video games."

The Uprising, American Made, the Human Killers, Murdock, Final Solution, Disabled Youth, the Abrasives, GFI, All Else Fails, and the Drapes appear Saturday at the Voodoo House in Tijuana on 11th Street near Pio Pico, $10 admission, all ages, doors open at 4 p.m.
