A New Belly Up Tavern

A new Belly Up Tavern is set to open in Aspen, Colorado. The lease was signed December 10 by Michael Goldberg, whose brother Steve owns the 30-year-old Solana Beach sister club. The new Belly Up will include a full kitchen, an all-wood dance floor, a video projection system, and flat-screen televisions. Aside from live music performances booked by agent Steve Weiss (longtime promoter for three venues in the Minneapolis area), the club will also host stand-up acts as part of February's U.S. Comedy Arts Festival.

Plans are for the below-street-level venue to open in late January. "We want it finished in time for X Games so that sponsors can use it for their musical acts," Michael Goldberg told the Aspen Times. The 16-year resident of Aspen (who also owns two Florida-based airline businesses) plans to photograph concerts and offer those services to acts that play the club (co-owned by fellow Aspenite David Gitlitz).

At this writing, no musical acts have been announced to perform.
