I Was on the Dance Floor
"I was on the dance floor with my friends when this guy started dancing next to us," states Rachel Groom in a battery report on file with the SDPD. The incident happened at 2:30 a.m., April 2, at E Street Alley in the Gaslamp Quarter.
"He started to move toward me as if he was trying to get in front of me. He stepped on my foot and I told him to back off. The next thing I know, he hit me in the face and grabbed me. He was pushing and grabbing me as I tried to get away from him. My nail was broken off and my face hurt."
The suspect, Israel Prewitt, told police: "I was...dancing next to a large group of females. I stepped on one of the females' foot, and she got really mad. I told her I was sorry but she came toward me. I put my hand straight out, locking my elbow, and she ran into my hand. I never hit her or touched her. They all started hitting me and then security stepped in."
Prewitt was cited "and walked off," according to the police report. "[He] was very calm and didn't appear to have been drinking."
