No Doubt Drummer Adrian Young

No Doubt drummer Adrian Young joined Bow Wow Wow for a KROQ gig in L.A. almost two years ago. He's been with the band ever since. Rolling Stone wrote that Young played with the So Cal band Oslo for a show last month. He recorded eight songs with San Diego's Unwritten Law on its latest CD, Here's to the Mourning.

I ask Young about No Doubt. "We'll record again. We initially wanted to take a break, but when our greatest hits CD did better than expected, we thought it would be crazy not to tour. So, we did a five-week tour. No Doubt will do a new record in 2006."

Young is also playing in the Stan Humphries Celebrity Golf Classic at Morgan Run Resort in Rancho Santa Fe, April 21 to 24. Tickets are $10 (kids under ten are free), and all the players will sign autographs following play on Saturday and Sunday.

Young, who has been playing golf for 21 years ("I've played golf longer than I have drums"), showed up for one tournament with pink hair. His playing partners also had pink hair. The pro golfer with them later found a can of pink spray paint and sprayed it into his own hair. I asked Young if he was contemplating some way of standing out at the Ranch.

"I don't plan that out. It's just whatever I have going on at the time."

Other golfers include Jerry Rice, Marshall Faulk, Johnny Bench, and Ray Romano, as well as Point Loma's Jason Scheff (singer and bassist with Chicago).

Bow Wow Wow (famous for "I Want Candy") appears 9 p.m. tomorrow at Brick by Brick, $20 admission, must be 21 or over.
