If you judged by San Diego's bookstores, you'd never know we had a theater scene. The corporate stores jam theater and poetry in dinky sections. They've got Shakespeare, Sophocles, and Tennessee Williams, and little else. UCSD used to have a mouthwatering selection of plays, criticism, and how-to acting and technical books, but it has dwindled. The place to go is D.G. Wills Books in La Jolla. The theater section, which has books behind the books, includes new and used texts, rare editions, and the most thorough collection of playscripts in the county.
