Sidney will hold summer Olympics in our fall

Dear Matt: After last summer’s Olympics, we discovered that the 2000 Summer Olympics will take place in Australia. What I would like to know is if it will take place during their summer or during our summer. Will it be called the Winter Olympics if it’s scheduled during our summer? Or vice versa? Should we look for the answer in their toilets to see which way the water flows for our endeared water ballerinas? — Concerned Northern Hemispherean, Point Loma

Waiting eagerly to see downhill water skiing, hurdlers in snowshoes, platform diving into a frozen pool? No such luck. The 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney are set for September 16 through October 1, which actually is Australia’s spring.
