The energy will be high and the music will be loud and so will be the punk rock inspired art. Artists will attempt get your rebellious spirits up with their art that has attitude. Thumbprint Gallery will be hosting the upcoming art show “Anarchy in Artistry: A Punk Rock Art Show” at BASIC in downtown on July 23.
One of the artists exhibiting, Matthew Land, is a local artist that has an artistic talent at making textured paintings. He uses an interesting method of adding and removing paint to achieve a 3-dimensional depth. His work is primarily a mix of abstract expressionism, surrealism, folk, pop, and realism aspects. Matthew has also been commissioned to paint one-of-a-kind artworks for commercial clothing companies.
The art of MR. DVICE is a mix of twisted and devious characters and designs. He paints freely, and comes up with art that contains elements of chaos and confusion. His pseudonym and logo also hint at his wild character: ‘The smile defines my stoke for life. The sinister teeth define my creepy side that no one gets. The lightning coming from the forehead defines my never ending madness in my head.’
Local artist Paul Naylor likes to link his art and graphic design with underground music and film. He received his Bachelor’s from the Art Institute of San Diego in graphic design. Now, he is working with Blue Ink Syndicate to create graphic design for clients. His recent work with “Splash!”, a speed-painter division within Blue Ink, has him performing at places like the San Diego Zoo and Downtown Disney.
The art show goes from 7pm to 12am on Tuesday, July 23. Bar Basic is located at 410 Tenth Avenue in downtown, San Diego. Other artists in the exhibit include, Andre Lupian, Autumn Rashak, Hawtspot, Inkt, Lyle Abrahams, Nicholas Johnson, Ricardo Islas, Ron Wharton, Sekoh One, Snak3oil., Tyra Leffert, Victor Villa, and more to be announced.
