Power Animals III: Spirit Guides

Power animals are spiritual guides that are there to help us humans through our life journey. Thumbprint Gallery will explore this idea in the group art show “Power Animals III: Spirit Guides” at The Spot in Barrio Logan on May 18. The show will delve into the energies of these animals, as local artists will display dynamic works of both these spiritual and mighty creatures. The public is welcome to come find their spirit animal.

One artist showing in the exhbit is Brian Dombrowsky who works with a wide variety of audiences in mind. He creates art that can be viewed on many different levels while keeping it very eye-catching. Some of his artworks are both 2-D and 3-D by utilizing his experience as a commercial sculptor. Stories, comics and children’s books are some of the places he gets his inspiration from. His works range from sublime landscapes to some truly bizarre Pop Art.

Toygami is a local graffiti artist and graphic designer who makes urban origami. His papercraft models are the next step in his street art career. It is something new that gives him a better voice in the urban art community. His creations start as pencil drawings on paper. Then are scanned into a computer where they are turned into 2D models that can be folded into 3D ones.

Another artist exhibiting is Jack Stricker, a graduate of San Diego State University, who currently resides in Ocean Beach. His education comes from both school and the streets. Stricker utilizes a broad range of mediums in his work including oil paints, spray paints and ink on canvas, wood and paper. As a native of San Diego, Stricker was influenced early on by Southern California culture. He has been an active contributor to the local art community, participating in various shows and festivals.

The opening starts at 5pm and runs until 10pm on Saturday May 18. There is no dress code and no cover. The Spot is located at 1835 Main St. in Barrio Logan, San Diego.
