Debut of Lara Owen and "Growing Your Inner Light"

Direct from the United Kingdom, Lara Owen made the first stop of her U.S. Book Tour for her newest literary offering "Growing Your Inner Light: A Guide to Independent Spiritual Practice" at the San Diego Center for Spiritual Living on Sunday, Nov. 1. We are honored to have had the distinct privilege of hosting this international speaker, teacher, and author for a talk, book signing, luncheon, and afternoon workshop.

Lara's talk on "Sharing Your Inner Light" included the ancient wisdom of the celebrations of the Sacred Days midway between the solstices and equinoxes. Her own wisdom included the recognition of the purpose of a spiritual practice. Lara stated that many of us are already incorporating spiritual practices in our daily lives but may not recognize them as such because they don't fall into the 'recognized' activities of our time. Yet each of us, by our very nature, have created our own unique and independent spiritual practice.

Lara Owen enlightened the audience with her gently spoken words of wisdom on the ancient traditions and how they actually appear in our lives now, in our high-tech, high-energy societies that still embrace them, because we still have an Inner Light to express and to share. Her depth of knowledge is clear and well-presented. She incorporated information from many ancient teachings and traditions in the way scholars discuss their specialties - as an essential component of their makeup. Lara has embodied this knowledge as a component of who she is as a wisdom seeker.

We shared a lively and delicious feast with Lara arranged by our extraordinarily capable Hospitality Team Leader, Kay Humphreys. Enormous gratitude to Kay for her organizing skills that makes putting on our sumptious pot luck lunches appear effortless. She is everywhere and right where someone needs her all at the same time. Thank you, also, to those who brought in the hearty foods, light salads, and tempting desserts that kept us well-fed as we were being spitirually fed. What a joy it is to 'break bread' as a spiritual familty.

After lunch and her book signing activities, Lara presented an afternoon workshop including exercises from her new book, "Growing Your Inner Light." The conversation, exercises, and sharing, interleaved with her embodied wisdom and understanding of archetypal images and ancient traditions, created an environment in which it was safe to explore the images within - and understand them as guidance for our individually independent spiritual practices. It was a very moving and empowering experience of greater awakening to our Inner Light.

Lara Owen's next stop on her Book Tour is in Los Angeles at Book Soup. From there she is making stops up the coast to Washington state. All her other stops are at book stores, so we are enormously grateful for the opportunity to host Lara and support her at the beginning of her tour.
