Shopping for men's clothes is for the birds!

Whenever I go clothes shopping for myself, I am immediately overwhelmed by the variety, choices, and prices out there. Over the years, as I venture into the stores, I don't have the slightest idea what to buy. First of all, what looks good, fits well, and has durability, typically is out of my price range. What IS in my price range is usually the wrong color, wrong style, and bleeds dye all over my other clothes when I put it in the laundry! To make matters worse, how it looks on the rack bears no resemblance to how it looks on ME, and until I wear it, I won't know how I look until I see it reflected in the faces of people who see me in my new clothes. If they cringe in horror, or quickly avert their gaze, I'll know I made the wrong choice. UNFORTUNATELY with clothes, once you wear them, you can't take them back to the store for a refund. Therefore, I tend to work jobs where they supply you with a uniform, that way I not only look like I know how to dress, I also look like everybody else. San Diego is a jeans-and-T-shirt town. No matter what neighborhood or class of citizen, the weather dictates what passes for presentable in public. Even people who drive expensive cars look like Seven-Eleven-on-a-budget models. One advantage to having a girlfriend is SHE can shop for you, and pick out what SHE wants to see you wear, and nine times out of ten, her taste is EXCELLENT. It's not easy being single, but I'll keep trying . . .
