Upcoming Puppetry at 3rdSpace in University Heights

The puppetry company known as the Animal Cracker Conspiracy will be opening their new show, "The Collector," for ten dates in early June. The venue for the event is the 3rdSpace artistic club located at 4610 Park Boulevard. 3rdSpace is basically a private club for artists to work and exhibit in; a pretty cool idea in its own right. Animal Cracker Conspiracy is a small company that specializes in contemporary puppet theater--this won't be some birthday clown shenanigans.

The official description for the collector, as borrowed from the website, says the show is "a mysterious tale about a lowly debt collector, who, under the management of a mechanical, tyrannical overseer, undergoes a radical transformation of spirit in the process of collecting outstanding debts."

Obviously, that leaves a lot to the imagination!

From what I've experienced at ACC shows, the imagery should be fairly retro, a little bit creepy, in tune with the pop cultural fringe, and deeply introspective.

One thing the show won't be is awkward. For whatever reason, puppetry can get awkward quickly, but the Animal Cracker Conspiracy is polished enough that uncomfortable puppeteers and prolonged set changes shouldn't drag the show down. It may get weird, but only in a good way.

"The Collector" will run June 6-10 and 13-16 at 8PM, with preview shows on May 30th and 31st, also at 8. Tickets will be $15 and a limited number of seats (50) will be sold for each night. This is a boon, since being at the back of a big crowd at a puppet show rapidly devolves to A Study of the Back of the Human Head.

Tickets are for sale at www.thecollectorshow.info, which also has links to all parties attached to the performance.
