A pretty 11-year-old girl gave testimony today accompanied by Barry, her fluffy teddy bear, which she has had “ever since I was two-and-a-half,” the jury learned today.

The bear was a gift from her dad when he came back from one of his deployments to Iraq, the girl informed the court. The girl now lives with her father, she no longer stays with her mother.

The girl was a witness in the second day of trial for Daniel Roger Hood today, May 29, 2013. Hood is charged with eleven felony counts of child abuse, he pleads not guilty.

“He was my mom’s boyfriend,” the girl told the jury. She said, “I think I was five or six” when she first met the man.

The girl was reluctant to give details, she often answered the prosecutor’s questions with: “I don’t really remember.” She did say there was a time when she fell asleep watching tv, and then woke up in a bedroom with Daniel. Her testimony lasted less than one hour, sometimes she covered her face with one hand and cried. She never let go of her teddy bear.

Daniel Roger Hood, 43, denies performing lewd acts on the daughter of his girlfriend, the child was then 9 years old. They all lived together in a rented home in Oceanside, in 2011.

The most damning evidence was extracted from the defendant’s own cell phone, on which he captured photos and videos of himself doing the criminal acts, according to prosecutor Keith Watanabe.

The jury of 7 men and 5 women began hearing evidence yesterday, they could begin deliberations as early as tomorrow. Trial will continue before the Honorable Judge Blaine Bowman, in San Diego’s North County Superior Courthouse.
