One wing of Papa Doug Manchester's hotel empire, Manchester Financial Group LLC, is building a 1035-room, $350 million hotel in Austin, Texas According to the publication AustinTowers, Doug Manchester, Papa Doug's son, is championing "a major push" to develop the Austin Convention Center to compete with centers of cities such as San Diego. Sound familiar?

Then there is another thing that smacks of San Diego. According to the Declaration of Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions of June 25, 2012, Manchester was seeking CBD-CURE (Central Business District-Central Urban Redevelopment District) zoning from the City of Austin. Says the document: "Prior to the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy for the first structure on the Property, a contribution of Seven Hundred Fifty Thousand and No/100 dollars ($750,000) shall be made by Manchester to either: 1. The Waller Creek Conservancy; 2. The Austin Parks Foundation; or 3. another non-profit entity or organization with a similar mission. This contribution shall be used for park improvements in the general area of the Property." This sounds faintly familiar, too.
