Jesus Alejandro Solorzano, 38, was declared guilty of 21 counts of child rape by a jury late yesterday, June 5, 2013.

Solorzano’s defense attorney first addressed the jury by listing the many awards and commendations the man had earned during his years of service in the United States Navy.

Criminal defense attorney Brad Patton gave opening statements to the jury two weeks ago, on May 23, 2013.

Prosecutor Tracy Prior said that Solorzano forced himself on a child for years, beginning in 2008 when the girl was 14 years old, at that time he watched the child for the mother who worked nights. Solorzano told the victim “things like if she did not give in, he would go after her little sister,” the prosecutor asserted.

When Jesus Alejandro Solorzano was arrested in March 2011 on child rape charges, he was “discharged” from the Navy, according to papers in his court file.

After hearing two weeks of testimony, the jury of 6 men and 6 women deliberated two full days before coming to unanimous verdicts.

The Honorable Judge Kathleen Lewis, who presided over trial, will pronounce sentence on July 30, 2013. The victim, now 19, and her family may choose to speak at the sentencing hearing, in San Diego’s North County Superior Courthouse.
