Double jeopardy

Sheriff's deputies follow stabbing victim from Rancho Santa Fe party to hospital where he is subsequently pepper sprayed and arrested

A house party packed with underage drinkers met a rowdy end early Saturday morning, when San Diego Sheriff’s deputies from the Encinitas station responded to a call regarding a reported stabbing.

Upon arriving shortly after midnight, deputies encountered more than 200 individuals at the residence at 17434 Los Morros, a 2.5 acre estate owned by Noel and Pilar Meza. Unspecified evidence of a crime was noted in the driveway and outside the home, though deputies believed the suspect and victim had already fled.

During an investigation to determine what occurred, a fight broke out amongst the crowd, resulting in one individual being Tasered and arrested. Four others were arrested for disorderly conduct or resisting officers, and numerous individuals under the age of 21 were observed in an intoxicated state on the property.

Deputies then responded to a local hospital, where they encountered a stabbing victim with wounds in his arm. The victim became aggressive toward deputies during questioning and was subsequently pepper sprayed and arrested.

The homeowner was arrested, cited, and released on site for violation of the county’s Social Host Ordinance, a zero-tolerance policy under which numerous other adults caught providing alcohol and party space to minors in recent months have been booked into local jails.
