Youthful Multi-Felon Back In Court

A 25-year-old man already convicted of four felonies has been ordered to stand trial on a fifth felony charge, according to a prosecutor in the Vista courthouse yesterday.

Anthony Bruce Deskin’s criminal career began in 2006, when he was convicted of a burglary, according to a prosecutor in San Diego Superior Court yesterday. Deskin was 19 years old at the time.

Prosecutor Michael Boyd stated in court paperwork that Deskin had prior convictions in 2007, 2008, 2010, and his most recent felony was a burglary in February of this year.

Deskin was in court again yesterday, May 30, accused of stealing shoes from a clothing store in Vista. A “loss prevention supervisor” testified that he observed Deskin switch out his “very undesirable-looking shoes” for a new pair of Nikes.

It was last month, on April 10, that Deskin put his old shoes into the new Nike box and put the box back on the shelf before he walked out of the store in the new shoes, according to the store supervisor. The employee said he followed Deskin outside and “I told him I wanted to get my shoes back.” While Deskin was detained and waiting for a sheriff’s deputy to arrive, “He said he had used heroin earlier,” the employee testified.

At the end of a preliminary hearing, Superior Court judge Richard G. Cline ordered Deskin to face charges of petty theft with three priors and felony burglary and possession of hypodermic syringe. The judge disallowed photos of the defendant for “identity” reasons.
