Parolee Arrested for Shooting Three Days After Release
Sheriff's deputies have arrested a man they believe to be responsible for a shooting that occurred shortly after midnight on Wednesday morning outside the Salty Frog bar in Imperial Beach. Nicholas Norton, a parolee released from state prison last Sunday, was taken into custody at about 1:30 this morning.
When deputies responded to the Salty Frog call at 12:23 a.m., they located three men who’d been involved in an argument with two others. Leaving the bar, one of the two displayed a handgun and fired several shots. The group of three fled the scene, chased by the other two men in a car. More shots were fired as the victims ran down the 600 block of Emory Street.
Detectives from the East County Regional Gang Task Force took part in the operation and determined that the three victims were members of a local street gang; it’s believed the shooting may have been gang-related. Norton, for his part, is suspected of being a member of a white-supremacist group.
