An RV caught fire in Ocean Beach early this morning. The owner, asleep in the back of the motor home when the blaze started in the front of the vehicle, suffered burns to his hands and face trying to escape, according to firefighter reports. He exited the vehicle and ran a short distance while still on fire, eventually collapsing. The man was taken to UCSD Medical Center for treatment.
The vehicle was completely destroyed in the fire, with damages estimated at around $12,000. As of 7:45 this morning Bacon Street was closed by police between Newport Avenue and Santa Monica Avenue as crews cleaned up debris and prepared to remove the remains of the RV.
