Tracy Alan Bartlett, 44, was detained by CBP officers after he entered the port from Mexico driving a California-plated 1997 Mercury Mountaineer. Bartlett presented a valid U.S. passport. The CBP officer who received Bartlett's declaration did a check on law enforcement databases and discovered information about an outstanding $1 million felony warrant for murder in Pasadena.

Bartlett, a U.S. citizen from Encino, was escorted by the CBP officer into the secondary inspection lot where his identity was confirmed using the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) and other databases. The Pasadena police department was also contacted to confirm the active warrant.

Bartlett was transported by CBP officers to the San Diego central jail and the custody of the San Diego Sheriff's department.

On Sunday, February 16, CBP officers at the Tecate border port in eastern San Diego County detained a 32-year old man wanted for homicide by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office. Jose Javier Cruz, a U.S. citizen, entered the port around 3 p.m. as a passenger in a 2004 Dodge Intrepid driven by a girlfriend. After initiating name queries, the primary CBP officer referred the vehicle and its occupants into the secondary inspection area where the outstanding $75,000 bail warrant was confirmed.

Cruz was later booked into the San Diego central jail for processing.

"We have stepped up our querying of the names of travelers with good reason," said Gurdit Dhillon, CBP director of field operations in San Diego. "More name queries equates to more interceptions.”
