Officers responded to a report of an injured male lying on the ground near the intersection of 17th and J Streets. They found a black male, 46, suffering from severe head trauma, according to Lt Manny Guaderrama. Paramedics responded and began CPR.
The victim was transported to a local trauma center where he died at 2:20 p.m.
Preliminary investigation reveals that the victim was involved in a physical confrontation with a Hispanic male driving a black SUV. The victim stood on the SUV’s running board and exchanged punches with the driver. When the victim fell off the running board, the suspect driver turned his vehicle toward him and accelerated. The suspect ran over the victim as he lay on the street.
The suspect stopped, looked back at the vctim, and then accepted rapidly southbound to Interstate 5.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 18-20 years old, slender build, thin moustache, wearing a white Padre baseball cap. The vehicle is described as a 2004/2005 black Toyota-4-Runner with chrome running boards.
