Boar burger fail

Burger Lounge's new burger (and its free burger offer) are non-delicious in Hillcrest.

I’ve been seeing everyone and his cousin lined up at Burger Lounge in Hillcrest as of late. This is probably because Burger Lounge mailed the entire city of San Diego a buy-one-get-one-free coupon. Under normal circumstances, I’m averse to the over-designed burger joint, but what’s the harm if it’s free? Plus, they’ve been advertising a wild boar burger topped with onion rings and barbecue sauce, which compels me since wild boar can be pretty darn tasty when it’s done up right.

Sad to say, the wild boar burger disappointed. I was skeptical from the beginning when I asked if it was a combination of beef and pork, only to be assured that it was 100% organic, free-range, wild-caught, sustainable, Leed-certified, wild boar named “Sybil,” or something to that effect. Portlandia jokes aside, it probably should have contained a little beef for the sake of culinary aptitude.

The off-round patty was dry, devoid of flavor, and almost McDonaldsy to the eye.

Yup, that’s two McReferences in as many days!

In all seriousness, I was let down by the boar burger, which could have been so much, but turned out to be so little. The best part was the bread...and I’m not in the practice of eating burgers for the bread. I’d advise avoidance of this particular delicacy to any and all San Diegans turning in their Burger Lounge coupons in the coming weeks!
