Monumental Rosca de Reyes Hosted by Cecut (Frontera, 1/8/13 by Ángel F. González)

TIJUANA, BC - A little more than a thousand people enjoyed the mega-sized 3 Kings Cake at the traditional "Monumental Rosca de Reyes" event held yesterday on the Esplanade of the Tijuana Cultural Center. As a way to carry out a great feast on the day of the Magi Kings, the Cecut hosted the event where citizens were invited to taste a slice of the treat whose size was 300 linear meters.

The event began with a musical number by the "Street Opera", which surprised those present when its members came-out from among the spectators. At about 5:00 p.m., they began to divide the cake and the Cubo group made their appearance as the 3 Kings, who agreed to take pictures with the children present. The milk was not missed and was provided in bottles, some chocolate.

Víctor Magdaleno, Manager of Communication of the Tijuana Cultural Center, said that since this event has resumed, it has been four consecutive years that the Cecut has offered the traditional bread. "The 3 Kings Cake is one of the largest popular culture traditions and the Centro Cultural Tijuana, since 2010, decided to resume this tradition; in previous years they had done this with great success in the community and then spent some years in which they kept doing it until 2012 when it was resumed," he noted.

The representative of the Cecut added that the "Monumental Rosca" seeks to have people not forget one of the oldest celebrations in Mexico. "What is intended is to basically offer a space to the community for one of the traditions that is most rooted in popular culture." About the giant cake, Magdaleno said the preparation process takes approximately 48 hours and 45 pastry chefs work to finish it.

Finally, the Manager of Communication announced that the whoever find the prize in the "Monumental Rosca", earns free tickets to films at the Tijuana Cultural Center. "Unlike the tradition in where the prize is used to get tamales, here it is exchanged for tickets to the IMAX cinema". http://www.frontera.info/EdicionEnLinea/Notas/Noticias/08012013/657471.aspx

No Nursing Celebration Due to Budget (Frontera, 1/8/13 by Ángela Torres)

TIJUANA, BC - Due to a lack of a budget, this year the nurses at the Health Secretariat did not hold a celebration within the institution usually organized for them, except for the traditional mass. For the Celebration of the Day of the Nurse, on January 6, at various health institutions such as Social Insurance, Issste and Issstecali, each one of them was paid a small tribute, however this was not the case in Isesalud.

According to information obtained by Frontera, due to a lack of a budget they did not have potlucks or were given recognition, as it happened in previous years. On this occasion, the Ministry of Health invested a lot of its budget on building and the reconstruction of hospitals and health centers in the State, as well as various patient care programs. For this reason, nurses at the General Hospital organized a traditional mass, in commemoration of his day to not let it go empty.

On the other hand, at the Social Security they had two ceremonies, one in Mexicali and another in Ensenada, to give recognition to the quality of care in the area, where they gave awards to 91 nurses, four of them from the IMSS Oportunidades program who stood-out for their work evaluations.

Similarly, Issstecali held celebrations in Tijuana and Mexicali, where 738 nurses work around the State of which 60% have degrees in nursing, while 15% have degrees in an expertise or specialty. http://www.frontera.info/EdicionEnLinea/Notas/Noticias/08012013/657469.aspx
