Will seek to meet total employment demand (El Sol de Tijuana, 2/14/13 by John Guizar)

Tijuana, BC - Many times the city has been close to reaching the total demand for employment, announced the Secretary of Economic Development of the Municipal Government, Miguel Velazco Bustamante, emphasizing "this time we are about to meet the total demand".

After addressing more than 9,000 job seekers at seven job fairs held so far by the municipal administration, Velazco Bustamante was clear to point out that in the past "demand tripled over our ability to fill the jobs that we generated".

Some 3,000 job seekers attended in search of a position at the year's first mega show yesterday. It was noted more than 2,000 were offered 500 jobs in commercial, tourism, services and industrial areas.

The jobs being offered ranged from engineers, administrators, accountants, line production and sales - a very rich mix of jobs and that is why we had a great turnout even though it exceeds the real number available, however the vast majority will be satisfied.

He said the facilities of the World Trade Center have been a key location for the success of the events because the city’s growth points to the East, where most business is located. http://www.oem.com.mx/elsoldetijuana/notas/n2879108.htm

Catholics begin Lent (El Sol de Tijuana, 2/14/13 by Rocio Galvan)

Tijuana, BC - Lent began on Ash Wednesday with thousands of faithful who attended churches located in town since early this morning where according to Catholic tradition, the Metropolitan Archbishop Rafael Romo Muñoz headed a ceremony of the distribution of ashes at Catedral de la Zona Centro on Calle Segunda.

The faithful came beginning at seven in the morning and during the religious celebration Romo Muñoz said Lent is 40 days that allow preparation with a particular sense of spirituality, repentance, conversion and penance. He said that this brings us through a process of purification to Easter, which is the central mystery of our beliefs - "the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus".

Wednesday should be a day of fasting or abstinence from almost all food as well as on Good Friday, he said. He explained this is to feel hunger which leads to a serious and profound reflection on our relationship with God.

On the other hand, in the various Catholic churches, citizens came because as housewife Ana Ramírez said, Lent is an important opportunity of reminding her that she is human and very close to the creator. "I feel good getting ashes. I feel comfortable with myself", said Abel Contreras, 36. "I remember a lot about God."

With respect to fasting from red meat, most said they will try to do as much as they are able. http://www.oem.com.mx/elsoldetijuana/notas/n2879056.htm

"Ideas x Tijuana" (El Sol de Tijuana, 2/13/13 by John Guizar)

Tijuana, BC - Encouraging citizen participation, the inclusion of people with disabilities and citizenship, as well as respect for the law, are the main purposes for beginning the program "Ideas x Tijuana", a social responsibility program that includes establishing its objectives in at least 11 city schools.

In search of ideas, the Business Center of Tijuana or Coparmex, reached out to Technical High School No. 1 where the project started and immediately got in touch with young people. "It is about educating students about a healthy and integrated society and represents direct contact with at least 3,000 people", said business leader Jorge Escalante.

The President of Coparmex indicated the program is structured on three pillars: the first is participation of citizens - considered the most important, because people must understand citizen participation means exercising their vote. Second is the inclusion of people with disabilities, and the third axis is citizenship or the respect of all laws".

"We are leading presentations at secondary schools and during this startup had about 300 students who participated in a very dynamic program. At these presentations, there have been some issues, but we involved the participation of young people," Escalante said.

The "Ideas x Tijuana" program is also accessed via the internet, where all citizens can participate at http://ideasxtijuana.com and there will be a summary of all of the ideas packaged and delivered to the authorities, and also to all candidates for posts in popular elections and in future discussions which we will organize, he concluded. http://www.oem.com.mx/elsoldetijuana/notas/n2877901.htm
