Baja & Border News Translations: Tecate, Coldest Municipality in BC; Sólo Por Ayudar Donates 500 Turkeys

Tecate, Coldest Municipality in BC (El Sol de Tijuana, 12/23/12 by Juan Guizar)

Tijuana, BC – With extreme temperatures, even below zero degrees centigrade, Tecate has become the coldest municipality in BC and therefore at greater risk for children, adults and populations that are outdoors, such as migrants. So far this month, 2,000 consultations have been provided to the population.

The director of the General Hospital of the city, Pedro Everardo Ruiz Lizárraga said that the institution is prepared having an Urgent Care Clinic open 24-hours and with specialty consultations from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.

He said that there are enough medications and special provisions to meet any increases over ordinary demands and address respiratory tract diseases which are the most common ailments during the season.

He noted a high percentage of inquiries, 70% are for minor problems such as ear and throat pain which bring coughs and flu, and 30-35% is for urgent care including multiple accident cases. "We must remember Tecate is located at the confluence of roads used by a large number of people. We have junctions with Mexicali, Ensenada and Tijuana so this can generate a lot of accidents and emergencies for us."

He also recalled that of the 70% of outside inquiries, at least 10-15% is for migrants who traverse the streets of Tecate. http://www.oem.com.mx/elsoldetijuana/notas/n2817903.htm

Sólo Por Ayudar Donates 500 Turkeys (El Sol de Tijuana, 12/23/12 by Rocio Galvan)

Tijuana, BC - The Sólo Por Ayudar Foundation donated more than 500 turkeys to poor families this afternoon at facilities of the Hippodrome de Agua Caliente at a ceremony headed by the nine children of businessman Jorge Hank Rhon, who reiterated that they are continuing the work of their mother María Elvia Amaya de Hank, who died in September.

Beneficiary families received the gifts with great thanks; in the words of some members '”At least we already have dinner". According to information provided by the organization, a census of people has come asking for help with their severe economic problems.

Among them were those selected who could carry turkeys from 10-12 kilos in weight; who can best leverage them to where they are going. Also donated were blankets and some other objects. At the ceremony, Alejandro Amaya indicated that his mother always thought of the most deprived persons. The nine children folded blankets, delivered turkeys and affectionately greeted the beneficiaries.

The next activity of the Agua Caliente group is on the traditional Día de Reyes, which will be held Saturday, January 5th. http://www.oem.com.mx/elsoldetijuana/notas/n2817915.htm
