National Theatre Live continues at Reading Cinemas Gaslamp 15

I have yet to attend one of National Theatre Live's presentations, but my pal Jean Lowerison, theater critic for SDGLN , is absolutely bonkers over their productions.

This is the Gaslamp's fourth season of NT Live, a group dedicated to beaming performances captured live from across the nation into movie theatres at a fraction of what it would cost to see them on stage. It seems to be catching on. According to their website, "over 750,000 people have now experienced the National’s work on movie screens worldwide."

There are still a pair of productions left before season four draws to a close. Additional titles for 2013 will be announced soon.

I am not going to pretend to know anything about these productions. Isn't a play when a group of actors stand where the screen should be and pretend that no one is watching them? Jean has taken me to see a few plays, but I am generally so busy texting that their names escape me. The following plot descriptions come from the Reading Cinemas press release.

The Last of the Haussmans plays the Gaslamp on Sunday, October 28 at 2:00pm and with a repeat performance on Tuesday, October 30 @ 7:00pm. Stephen Beresford’s new play, directed by Howard Davies, examines the fate of the 1960s revolutionary generation and offers a funny, touching and at times savage portrait of a family full of longing that’s losing its grip. The cast includes Rory Kinnear, Matthew Marsh, Helen McCrory and Julie Walters.

Timon of Athens screens on Sunday, November 18 at 2:00pm and again on Tuesday, November 20 at 7:00pm. Simon Russell Beale takes the title role in Timon of Athens, Shakespeare’s strange fable of conspicuous consumption, debt and ruin, written in collaboration with Thomas Middleton, directed by Nicholas Hytner.

Tickets are $20.00. All performances take place on a Sunday afternoon or Tuesday evening, in other words at non-peak hours, so none of this "I can't find parking in the Gaslamp" baloney.
