Imitation is Flattering

I use my real name online, so imagine my surprise when someone posting as "Fred_williams" began copy/pasting words in my (almost) name.

I am truly flattered.

This means someone takes me so seriously, that they would go so far as impersonating me to try add to their candidate's faltering campaign.

I'm glad. But I still ask the system administrators to remove the offending poster.

I know sysadmins, and they don't think that kind of game is funny. They're protective of the integrity of their content management system, and don't appreciate those who dishonestly monkey around.

Fair comment is welcome, but false identities are juvenile.

Perhaps it's Todd Gloria himself who is posing as so many different identities online. No one else on his campaign seems bright enough, but Todd is plenty clever. Taking dirty cash from the likes of Jack McGrory and Nancy Graham shows his propensity for back room deals and secrecy.

The reason is clear.

Reform candidate Stephen Whitburn, who the downtown insiders dismissed, is now winning this election. Now they're frightened and figure it's time to do anything for their boy before it's too late. If Whitburn wins, San Diego will change the way it does business, and Gloria's backers don't want anything to alter their cozy Enron by the Sea.

Well, they'll find that online forums have a certain degree of etiquette, and sys-admins run the show.

Here's to the System Administrator:
