Nancy Worlie cleans house at KPBS
KPBS reports daily COVID news with interviews and statistics. Isn't that nice? We are desperately in need of more statistics! They kindly tell us about theater and symphony events and other arts. Important to know! They daily repeat the national and world news that NPR has already told us. But finding real news about San Diego is difficult. Voters can't benefit from symphony news- they need to know what our elected officials are doing. KPBS won't tell them. Of the hundreds of elected and appointed officials in San Diego, few are ever mentioned on KPBS, much less critiqued. Has a KPBS reporter *ever* attended a city council meeting in *any* city within our county? Have they ever reported the content of a controversial school district meeting in *any* local district? Have they *ever* suggested that Cox or SDGE or AT&T are monopolies and charging us more than necessary? Have they *ever* questioned why developers focus on luxury housing when we have a desperate shortage of affordable housing? Have they been telling you about the current problems at Qualcomm? Why do you think that is? Could it be that the politicians, monopolies, developers and businesses like Qualcomm are major donors to KPBS?— August 12, 2021 8:37 p.m.

Carl DeMaio pursues Todd Gloria for sex offender bill
Sorry Matt, you lost me in there somewhere. Lots of facts not well organized. Perhaps if you had a separate paragraph for each fund showing where their money came from, and what the donor's intention was. It might look odd in the Reader, but a spreadsheet format might even be helpful. This is great information that no other reporter brings to the public but it is still hard to understand as presented.— October 22, 2020 9:07 p.m.
No delay for deletion of parking on 30th Street
" if parking was important to her, she should live somewhere else" A politician should never be so blunt. And yet he is correct. Nobody with a car lives on 42nd St in NYC. It's either bicycles, taxis or mass transportation. Inner city San Diego will have to adapt as well. I live in an old bldg in Hillcrest with indoor parking for my car and my motorcycle. This is extremely rare and will become more so. Autonomous rideshare vehicles will probably make vehicle ownership even less desirable in the future.— September 28, 2020 1:36 p.m.
San Diego watersheds trashed by street sweeping negligence
That looks like an interesting map, Matt. Unfortunately the thumbnail image doesn't seem to link to anything useful.— September 24, 2020 1:22 p.m.
More sex harassment history behind Todd Gloria’s Capitol campaign cash
It's odd that certain candidates attract certain supporters (Trump's supporters all seem to be criminals). But does it matter? Is there a law against it? If a mass murderer takes a liking to a candidate that I also like, should I abandon that candidate? I'm not sure of the point of this article.— September 19, 2020 12:27 p.m.
Will lower fines encourage fare skipping on buses and trolley?
Sheila, tell the editor that it's 'fare', not 'fair'. Thanks for a thoughtful story. People of privilege often don't understand what it's like to lose everything, or in many cases to never have had anything. Maybe your story will reach some of them if their heart isn't already turned to stone.— June 23, 2020 3:03 p.m.
High dollar execs remain on board as KPBS layoffs go viral
What's wrong with KPBS ? I try KPBS radio for local news daily. That's the station whose motto is: "Where News Matters". Despite all those annual million$, they seem unable to find any local news. They are good at interviewing politicians, disease experts, book authors, entertainers, scientists, pundits, restaurant owners and others who need the press coverage. They are happy to promote local businesses, venues, entertainments and themselves. But they don't keep up with the activities of any local government, any utility company, any community organization or planning group, or anyone who actually affects the lives of local citizens. I don't want to say that they are afraid to offend their advertisers and political chums by telling the awful truth about them. I don't want to, but it seems to have slipped out anyway. Despite the complaints, the U-T does have a couple good reporters. Voice of San Diego does some real journalism and they will sometimes name offenders (companies, individuals, politicians) who abuse the public trust. Not KPBS. At least we have the Reader and Matt Potter who probably get less than $26 million/year.— June 23, 2020 2:51 p.m.
Will California let home owners save the beach?
Individual property owners and commercial operations should not be allowed within 1/2 mile of the coast except at ports and fishing piers. This land is for everyone, not just the rich, not for commercial exploitation. Let there be beaches and parks and free parking lots and shade trees. No flashing neon lights, no bars, no vendors, no hotels or entertainment monstrosities …— June 3, 2020 4:42 p.m.
