Former gas station turned into hot La Mesa lunch spot
Downtown La Mesa Village has been on the radar and slowly growing for a while (past decade.) It has all the ingredients: Craftsman style homes near a walkable downtown village with mass transit options, albeit at a lower price tag. But as Ponzi wrote, its totally spot on. This location has been a British shoppe twice with the latter incarnation being owned by the folks that owned "the Shake" Shakespeare Pub in Mission Hills. Certainly hasnt been a gas station in decades.— October 25, 2016 1:54 p.m.

Homeless People Drummed Out of San Diego's Downtown Library
"So easy to tap out little judgments on the keyboard from the safety of wherever you keep your computer. "Take care of yourself!" Tap tap tap. Meanwhile, it's raining outside, and human beings, many of whom can't take care of themselves, are wet and cold. There but for the grace..." I have lived downtown for 10 years and have seen the homeless population grow exponentially year after year. My time volunteering at Mamas Kitchen is about as helpful as I will be to these folks, because these people need and ask. Beggars have as much human right as anyone else to ask for money or what have you. However, there is no reciprocal effect for helping a beggar. Kind of like criticizing someones opinion and not offering a solution tap tap tap. GO out and voluteer to help the needy, not free lunches or hand outs. Just walk across the border if you dont feel the City of SD is able to support a vagrants needs.— October 17, 2010 10:39 a.m.
San Diego’s home-price recovery isn’t what it seems
"Since the collapse happened on the watch of President George W. Bush at the end of two full terms in office, many in the Democratic Party were only too eager to blame his administration. Yet while Bush did nothing to remedy the problem, and his response was to simply reward the culprits, the roots of this disaster go back much further, to the free-market propaganda of the Reagan years and, most damagingly, to the bipartisan deregulation of the banking industry undertaken with the full support of "liberal" President Clinton. Yes, Clinton. And if this debacle needs a name, it should most properly be called "the Clinton bubble," as difficult as it may be to accept for those of us who voted for him." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-scheer/the-g… This is for all Bush finger pointers out there. Read this interesting point of view illustrating the grand scheme here and a failed economy just didnt happen overnight.— September 16, 2010 1:31 p.m.
