No Frontier
The city of encinitas has laid off contract employees and has delayed rehiring for vacating positions.— July 18, 2010 8:03 a.m.
Walkability's Price
These things don't warp space time. The suburbs are not going to become ghost towns. People will still drive because it take a lot longer to walk or take transit. Let's hope driving never takes as long as the bus because then we will never see our families or have time to exercise.— March 26, 2010 10:07 a.m.
Richard Eckfield's crusade to get a train stop built at Del Mar Racetrack,
[Tim Fenel] responds by saying that it all boils down to a lack of funding" Excuse me but the fairgrounds is the only government agency in California that is gushing revenue. There is are a reason the fairgrounds doesn't have their budget on line. People would freak out how much revenue they have and how much money they are spending on major capital improvements and Tim's beach resort complex. The money is there. Tim has to go.— September 26, 2009 6:58 p.m.
Garden of Dreams
Indian Head was set aside as wildlife open space.— July 16, 2009 8:13 a.m.
Del Mar Un-Fairgrounds
The fairground and the regional transportation agency (SANDAG) should realize that there is going to be more rounds of economic stimulus. We can all guess that next time mass transit is going to get more money. This project would be a shoe-in for stimulus money. Our local officials should put up the money and design the train stop that everyone agrees will eventually be built. It is time to make this project shovel ready.— April 23, 2009 4:55 p.m.
Deer Canyon trails traffic jam
Population growth occurs with increased density. More people, more competition for resources.— December 15, 2008 8:12 p.m.
Andrea Tevlin, San Diego's budget analyst, too busy to talk
Response to #12, The UT could only get away with that if the public trusts the paper to some degree. The reader exposes the UT bit by bit every week, but that only penetrates so far. Where is the case compiled in a cohesive and compelling manner that the UT has let our city down? For instance, if I want to email a link to a friend who thinks the UT is a great paper that can be trusted, sending them an article or two from the reader won't do it. I'll need to provide an analysis that has a more comprehensive view to be compelling. Does anyone keep a list of the UT's acts of manipulation?— December 5, 2008 7:36 p.m.
Las Vegas down, but this won't help San Diego
When will people figure out that casinos and lotteries are scams? You're a financial guy so you and I look at expected returns. A lot of people see their losses in Vegas as the cost of entertainment. The lotteyr is a different story. The lottery can't be judged quantitatively alone. Some people think that their only chance at wealth is the lottery.— July 17, 2008 8:57 p.m.
Sunrise Powerlink — a chess game for the big guys
Wow. This article really opened my eyes. The opposition has done such a poor job of bringing this to light. They have bumper stickers that say save Anza Borego. That doesn't really help people know how much of a scam this. A lot of people simply don't care or think it is a necessary loss and do think the opposition is just about enviro nuts. How about sending the message that this is the next Enron scam. A lot of politicians have supported this, maybe it is time to start knocking on their doors and getting them to change their position. Don't start with the Governor, start with the locals and work up.— May 31, 2008 7:29 p.m.
