Money for Sweetwater Union HS District Board Members Under Microscope
Right on Annie and I wonder why the UT is not reporting the major conflict of interest Gandara/McCann/SGI/BG/Alevy/FOCUSCOM....maybe they are complicit with the Republican Party after Doug Manchester purchased the newspaper? Many questions remain to be answered we are fotunate to have Susan Luzzaro shed some light on the situation and bring light to those shadows on the cave walls!— February 1, 2012 11:53 a.m.
Did Election Tampering Help Create Sweetwater Union High School Board?
Alex, there are many unanswered questions and you have raised some very important ones. Where is the investigation on FOCUSCOM and their contract with BG/DIstrict? Where is the investigation/audit on the Sweetwater Foundation? Weren't individuals being paid alot of money that should have gone to scholarships? Did McCann when he was President of the Board keep a legal opinion expressing cause for firing Supt. Gandara away from the other Board members? If Gandara had been terminated for cause he wouldn't and shouldn't have been given a sweetheart severance agreement costing us a least $500,000 plus lifetime health benefits. Not only that, his departure was extended for enough time to get him vested in the State retirement system. Who has access to the second legal opinion? Why did they go with BG's legal opinion that there was not enough cause for firing the Supt.? Who was the captain of the ship when the deal was cut for Gandara to leave?...and isn't this the same person who got a $20,000 political contribution from Gandara's long distance call from Mexico to a SGI? If this dosen't smell like PLAY FOR PAY, I don't know what does?— January 31, 2012 4:26 p.m.
Southwestern College Foundation Under Investigation
Sorry blondes, my bad, I now understand where you are coming from!....keep up the good work reporting the truth!— January 19, 2012 5:23 p.m.
Southwestern College Foundation Under Investigation
blondes, you obviously are not from the South Bay calling Southwestern College "Sweetwater College" and not being aware that Congressman Bob Filner has been speaking up. In fact he has made himself available and has attended Southwestern College Board meetings and student rally's. Not just recently but going back years!....do your homework! Some of your other posts make sense, don't minimize them with unworthy comments!— January 18, 2012 6:39 p.m.
Southwestern College Foundation Under Investigation
anniej, i read your posts and you are usually right on and aware but on Southwestern College I need to correct something and give a little history. The new Supt. is Melinda Nish not a "he" and the interim Supt. before her was Dr. Denise Whitiker who was hired in Nov. 2010 just after the newly elected Board dismissed Supt. Raj Chopra & Alioto. Up until Nov. 2010 the College was in chaos and their accreditation was being threatened with termination. The heavy handed leadership, Chopra/Alioto in collusion with the Board were soliciting contractor contributions for the encumbants, a grassroots effort ran against them and beat two encjumbants. The new Board led by Tim Nader and Norma Hernandez cleaned house and ordered the forensic audit and Supt. Whitiker got full accreditation restored and now there is peace on campus. The release of the forensic audit at SWC and the Greg Vega Report should reveal corruption and colusion between the leadership of the two districts and their consultants, legal firms and contractors.Check the record the Board minutes and you will find that Board member Nick Aguilar was the only one fighting against the corruptive practices until they wore him out and his PTSD surfaced so he resigned shortly after the new Board came in and cleaned house!— January 15, 2012 8:53 a.m.

Visduh, with this ignorant comment you are part of the problem...try fixing our own house and become part of the solution. Like MJ said"I'm looking at the man in the mirror, I'm asking him to change his ways and no message could have been any clearer. If you want to make the world a better place. Take a look in mirror and make that CHANGE!"— December 23, 2011 9:13 a.m.
Sweetwater Union High School District Boardmembers' Homes Raided
True susan and that is why we need district elections where expenditures would be alot less than running district wide. Incumbants have a huge advantage and access to resources in district wide elections. Another thought is term limits.— December 23, 2011 9:02 a.m.
Sweetwater Union High School District Boardmembers' Homes Raided
anniej, they can fool some of the people some of the time but they can't fool all of the people all of the time....except for Bertha Lopez who was all alone getting Jesus Gandara exposed all the rest are vulnerable, they won't have the vendor/contactor money to run their campaign! Good grassroots efforts with solid honest and caring candidates can win!...thanks for your comments.— December 22, 2011 4:18 p.m.
Sweetwater Union High School District Boardmembers' Homes Raided
The campaign election corruption at SUHD and most other districts is not news, this has been going on for many years...it is tradition. If not the Unions trying to put friendly Board members into office it is the Educational leaders putting pressure on Administrator's and vendors to support those Board members who negotiate their contract...usually they support encumbants or outsiders such as was the case with McCann Some call the deal making with vendor's "Pay for Play" and this is maybe what the investigation is about. And in the mean time the Students are left getting battered in the midst of the mud fight. What Board Members and educational leaders should be doing is getting a vigorous/quality education to all students so that they may compete effectively for the CSU/UC system! Distict elections and total restrictions on contributions from vendors would be a good first step!!— December 22, 2011 10:34 a.m.
