Radio quiet
I don't believe this woman. How on earth would a "smart meter" cause her to become ill suddenly when she has been living in a dense metro area with thousands of sources of electromagnetic radiation bathing all of us at much higher energy densities than a smart meter? I am NOT saying that she doesn't truly believe that she is right (i.e. she may or may not be knowingly bringing a false civil action) but rather that she is devoid of common sense and scientific/medical understanding of EM radiation and human health. Also, she does not "go to Western doctors", which is going make it impossible to prove her case for $120 million in damages. Basically she comes across as a new-age nut who's lost her grip on reality. I would expect a very brief lifespan for this case.— January 24, 2013 2:13 p.m.
No SeaWorld fireworks after Mission Bay Parade of Lights
I am shocked, SHOCKED, to find out that there was erroneous information on the interwebs! But seriously, the San Diego Bay boat parade is the one to go to.— December 12, 2012 1:48 p.m.
Pat's punted
I live a few blocks south of here. This area has changed dramatically, but it is an over-simplification to blame "hipsters" (WTF does that even mean these days?) for the change. People love the location of NP/SP and the walkability of the area. Houses were cheaper 12 years ago, and now have shot way up as more people realize how nice the area can be. More and more families live near me (with young kids, like mine) and those people support businesses and restaurants that, in turn, support higher commercial rents. Landlords have picked up on this, and are going to go where the $ is. Let's see what goes in here, I don't believe an architects office makes sense, I take it an architect is coming in to re-do the space for another restaurant. Pat's is very neat and unique, but I always wondered how long it would be before the prime corner would be yanked back from them by the building's owner. I bought my current kitchen table/chairs there, along with all the school desks and dressers for my kids. They were too cheap (price, not quality!) for solid-wood with retro aesthetics, but hey, I was stoked to get such a deal. But one can only buy so much from a Pats-type place (unless you refurb and resell as a means of income) before you don't need anything else. I hope they land close by with a long-term lease, best of luck and thanks for the good deals!— December 10, 2012 2:39 p.m.
Still fat –fFrom Webster Elementary to Pershing Jr. High to law school to single motherhood
Ms. Jackson, you write eloquently and with great passion. One of the best articles I have read in a while. Thank you for your candor and strong spirit, and best of luck with your new endeavor.— December 6, 2012 11:31 a.m.
Where the People are Nice, and Paychecks are Fat
I don't want to live in America's hat, too cold for this SD boy, brrrrr! But I am sure if I needed work, I'd be singing a different tune. No mention about the morals of supporting the dirtiest fossil fuel ever, tar-sands in the Alberta shale formation, though. I suppose that is another article waiting to be written.— December 6, 2012 11:21 a.m.
Santee resident bilked in Disney ticket scam
I am sorry for your loss Kim, but please understand that posting a "WTB $900 in tickets" to any venue on Craigslist is like putting out a con-artist bat signal. I am pretty sure that Craigslist's own FAQ would have saved you the heartache. People lie, steal, and cheat all the time on Craigslist. Had you asked her to meet you at Disneyland's ticket booth (you already were in Anaheim) you could have had the cards checked on the spot before paying. Many vendors also offer a method for one to enter the gift card's # online to check the validity/balance. Obviously the con would have refused to go along with this and you would have known she was a POS. This was an expensive, but avoidable, lesson. Next time use the cold-war-era aphorism to guide you: "Trust, but verify." Best of luck next time on the wild world that is Craigslist; I hope you catch this person and bring charges for fraud!— December 6, 2012 10:41 a.m.
A Man, His Service Dog, and a Parks and Rec Officer
Cal. Health & Safety Code § 113903: "“Service animal” means an animal such as a guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability." Do you see the word "owner" in there? Nope. If the animal is trained to provide assistance to any "individual" it is a service dog per California law. Emotional therapy is a legally recognized therapy, e.g., dogs for veterans who suffer only from PTSD. Please educate yourself before you post nasty comments. By the way, miniature horses now qualify as well.— October 30, 2012 3:18 p.m.
A Man, His Service Dog, and a Parks and Rec Officer
I think the better question, Mindy, is what will YOU do?— October 30, 2012 3:08 p.m.
An Oceanside Man’s Meditation for Peace

Let’s Build an Even Bigger Jack in the Box in North Park
Plus I am pretty sure @MisterRogers has an stake/interest JITB of some sort. Accord to SDReader, he has one comment (the on above) and joined this site the day he posted the comment: USER PROFILE: MISTERROGERS Joined: Feb. 7, 2012 Comments posted: 1 (view all) Favorites: view So if I am right, please go troll somewhere else. If I am wrong, my apologies, you must just genuinely love JITB and/or special treatment of multi-billion-dollar companies to the detriment of communities!— February 16, 2012 2:32 p.m.
