On Friday May 3rd, 2019 we attended the City of Vista’s latest unveiling of alley artwork designed to dress up a revitalized downtown district area to include creative works of art from local artisans. The city’s “Kites over Vista sculpture initiative” is meant to provide pedestrians a thought provoking experience by positioning creative design pieces within the city center sidewalks and meeting areas within the heart of the city. We had to chance to interview the talented young artist Corwin Jones of Vista, CA who created the art piece appropriately named “Love Wind Sail” to understand his inspiration and meaning for the creation.
Corey stated “I drew several points of inspiration and passion from my life to fuel the final design that you now see here today”. “The concept of the wind sail is to portray love through the actions we make to fulfill our soul”. “The heart acts as a center piece while representing the mind, body and spirit working as one”. “The butterflies represent a connection made between two individuals”. “Light bulb brings the bright dignified ideas of the mind”. “The mountains express one’s lust for nature, whereas the musical note represents the importance of art and self-expression in one’s life”.
The beautifully hand-crafted all metal piece stands roughly 15 feet off the ground and is perfectly balanced to rotate horizontally even with the slightest bit of wind. Its an excellent example of a modern minimalist metal design coupled with ecstatically pleasing kinetic motions. The new art piece can be found on the corner of East Broadway and Indiana streets, right next to the newly opened Beirgarten restaurant.
A very interesting video was taken of the actual installation process to commemorate this intriguing new art piece, the URL is https://vimeo.com/334080419
