Two Top U-T Officials Get the Axe
Enlace Publisher Francisco Mata is still currently at the U-T, he was not let go with Walker, as reported in a comment above.— June 5, 2009 9:38 a.m.
Two Top U-T Officials Get the Axe
Heard last week that another of their top brass, Jessica Walker (VP Accounting), had been relieved of her duties as well. So that's now 3.— May 29, 2009 2:45 p.m.
Tracking the Union-Tribune Deal: Five parcels sold for a total of $51.2 million
I agree with snowflakeCsun- Based on Hellcat's insensitive glee here, as well as his/her childish past photoshop postings on this blog, I think he/she needs to grow up. Not a good day at our city's newspaper or anywhere else this is going on.— May 7, 2009 12:37 p.m.
Charlotte Russe Is One Bright Spot among Nation's Ailing Retailers
Don- slightly off topic here, but still "ailing economy"-related. I saw an item in the U-T today that several local TV stations had "more layoffs" this week. You've done a good job keeping us abreast of the woes facing the newspaper industry, but very little has been said about the shrinking audience, ad revenues and staffs of the broadcast media here and around the country as well... what gives?— April 10, 2009 8:35 a.m.
Parent of Chicago Sun-Times Files for Bankruptcy
Response to post #7: Now THAT was funny! Of course, looks like his "guarantee" will run out in a few more weeks.— April 7, 2009 8:57 a.m.
Parent of Chicago Sun-Times Files for Bankruptcy
Response to post #5: "...lifetime job guarantees enjoyed by some veteran employees" at The Globe!!??? Holy Cow! Don, did these also exist at the UT when you were there? If so, no wonder the other employees there simply got rid of that union a few years ago. Who could support that?— April 6, 2009 3:15 p.m.
U-T Heads Will Be Chopped More Severely; Economics Dictates It
Response to post #6: "...[The UT] has no competition." Really?! Guess that's why they, like so many other papers, are seeing their audience high-tailing it to the internet. Guess that's why more than a few advertising dollars are following suit. Guess that's why even more advertising dollars end up in local broadcast (radio, TV and cable). Guess that's why so many inserts appear instead in the mail these days, stuffed into Pennysavers, Red Plums and the like... etc., etc., etc...— March 20, 2009 9:15 a.m.
Union-Tribune Sold to Private Equity Group Teaming with Black Press, Long-Time Rumored Buyer
FYI-- as "reported" earlier, the Borrego paper has now officially been sold as well, according to the U-T.— March 18, 2009 3:51 p.m.
Union-Tribune Sold to Private Equity Group Teaming with Black Press, Long-Time Rumored Buyer
Well, now that that's settled... Don, curious about your take now on the impending "reduction in workforce" that was announced by the U-T a few months back. Based on your experience, is that now more likely to occur before this sale closes in Q2, or will the Platinum Group be more likely to want to make those determinations themselves, once they're fully in charge?— March 18, 2009 1:43 p.m.
Copley Slashes Retiree Health Benefits
