Mesa College observatory dedicated to Trailmaster Schad
Every time I see his name I read the article. A kind and appropriate tribute to the man who still (after a decade of reflection) wrote the most influential book I own. Granted, I'm no NYT bestseller reader but Afoot and Afield SD brought a child-like fascination and exploratory sense of wonder back to life in this transplant after years of double duty work and university. The way that he found what he loved about each trail and how eloquently it showed through in his writing was just awesome. Often I'd sit home after a tough day and flip and read and dream of where I was off to next. 10 years later I'm not a novice hiker but experienced backpacker. I'm someone different and someone happier because of what his passion for chronicling SD county trails gave me back. I give the book to everyone I care about. New to SD, job stress, get a drivers' license, get laid-off, get married, get divorced.... Whatever it is, you get the book from me. I'm not surprised at all to read that his close friends and literal students found him just as impassioned (and about a variety of subjects.) Remarkable man. Thank you Jerry. -Matt— November 20, 2015 1:59 p.m.
Maybe Green Flash has Key to “Super Local” Mystery
What philanthropy! Let's do the math... At $9 a 4 pk fow West Coast that makes the pils $10 a six if your lucky. So at $40 a case GF will give up 12% of gross sales to sell more beer under the guise of local. What saints. It's good and all but I'd be a lot happer if GF wasn't "super expensive", "super all about margin", and "super hung up on letting us all fund their move to Mira Mesa at our own expense".— June 4, 2012 1:20 p.m.
