San Diego students required to take ethnic studies
Having taught the last 15 years in the Chula Vista elementary school district, I am in support of ethnic studies curriculum because it allows students to learn other perspectives of our country’s history. When given more perspectives than a European-driven narrative, the students connect and are more engaged since most of our students would be learning the history of their families that’s currently being underrepresented. Ethnic studies does not push a particular agenda. It provides a various field of information, in addition to our traditional educational courses, for students to form their own opinions based on a more balanced presentation of information.— October 19, 2019 7:07 a.m.
