I would like to thank the sheriffs dept and the Coast News for posting some info regarding those horrible sharrow lanes on the 101 between La Costa and Encinitas Blvd. As per the DOT law, bikers are obligated to ride single file, as far to the right as possible, and may only use the full lane when needed to avoid parked cars. Thanks for clearing that up! We hae groups of bikers using the whole lane every weekend and impeding traffic, as well as single bikers on beach cruisers riding in the middle of the lane. Very dangerous and inconsiderate....— September 20, 2013 3:43 p.m.
Are you happy with Filner's resignation?
Easy to call names and make assumptions from your PC, isnt it? So you think Donna Frye, staunch Liberal Democrat, was in on the "lynching"? You think all those women were lying, and are crooks and hypocrites, without having ever met them or been there to witness their claims? You just stand by your party, even though they are the ones routinely abusing and harassing women? Filner, Clinton, Weiner, Spitzer, Jesse Jackson, Ted Kennedy, all democrats, all serial harassers. If even half those women are telling the truth, it displayed a horrible lack of judgement on Filner's behalf, and you cannot have a mayor with poor judgement. And by the way, I read your letter in regards to minimum wage. It was so biased, full of holes and hypocrisy as to be laughable, if it wasnt so sad... you truly believe the tripe coming from your mouth?! You showed the whole city your complete lack of economic understanding and partisanship. You are just another sock puppet for the left. If raising the minimum wage worked, why havent we just raised it to $20 an hour? Or $100 an hour? You cant legislate wealth, and a employee producing $5 an hour of product is not going to get hired for $20 an hour. Why dont we just raise the minimum wage in poor countries too? Explain that, "economics professor"...instead of just bashing another reader with your doublespeak. That writer was correct, fast food jobs are not career choices. If you want to raise a family in SD and work fast food, you better be the manager or area manager, not the drive thru employee.— September 20, 2013 3:38 p.m.

A warm welcome to the Priority Public House, now open in the location of the former Calypso. The new spot has great beer, great food and great service, unlike the former Calypso which had none of those things. I hope you all get a chance to go visit and patronize this new and sorely needed addition to the Leucadia grub and grog scene. As for the Calypso, well...goodbye to bad rubbish. I am not sad to see them go, the manager was a jerk, the food was medicocre at best and the prices were terrible. Onward and upward in Leucadia!— June 24, 2013 11:39 a.m.
neighborhoods/encinitas -- Encinitas
Between the subway, starbucks and whole foods, Encinitas is starting to look like every other coastal town in CA, we are losing our funky coastal vibe to corporate interests...whats next, a costco and a home depot on the 101?— May 21, 2013 1:51 p.m.

It seems San Diegans have vision problems...let me explain. On the south bound 101 there are no right turns onto El Portal or North Ct (next to Pannikin) M-F from 6am-9am where there is a large street sign in front of the Econo Lodge hotel. Regardless, morning traffic routinely ignores this sign and makes right turns into the neighborhood at high speeds to avoid the stop sign by Juanita's. Can we get a bigger sign or more cops sitting there in the mornings? When the southbound 5 backs up, as it does almost everyday, these fools think they will do better getting off the 5 and onto the coast hwy. ANy ideas? Perhaps a group of citizens taking pictures of the violators?— May 21, 2013 1:47 p.m.

Well, the new bike lanes are in on the 101 and I cant say enough bad things about them. I dont want to be overly negative, but in conversations with my neighbors, none of us can figure out why the city did this. It seems to only benefit the weekend riders, it makes it very dangerous to drive north and south between la costa ave and encinitas blvd, and it seems to create worse traffic and more pollution in the summer days when the roads are busy. Seems to be a very short sighted venture that completely ignores the already problematic road with no parking on the east side. A better solution would have been to widen the bike lanes on the east side of the street and put a dedicated bike lane into the west side. And I bike to work to top it off, and this still makes no sense...neptune or vulcan can be used by bikers much easier.— May 21, 2013 1:37 p.m.
Upside Down in the Crescent City
I have to agree with Naomi...as a New orleans native and confirmed foodie, I was also disappointed in the Indigo Cafe and felt that her descriptions were spot on. Dont take it personally Indigo Cafe (and fans), just up the ante. Laissez les bon temps rouler!— May 14, 2010 4:08 p.m.
Priority Public House
Just too small, and outrageous prices on very plain food. There is hardly ever any seating, $5 for a bottle of beer, and the same rice and steamed veggies with every dish. If I wasnt close friends with the bartender and the band, I would never go back. $9.50 for a Mojito? $7.50 for Sangria? I know this place is on the 101 but come on! And their new venture, the Calypso Fish house, is terrible as well. Save your money...— July 1, 2008 3:06 p.m.

Your review was right on the money! My family and I, all New Orleans natives, are usually very hesitant to even try any restauraunt that claims to serve "Cajun" or "Creole" or god forbid "Cajun/Creole" (there is no such thing, as you know, they are very different)so we went into Chateau Orleans with less than high hopes and, yep, we were right. New Orleans style food, or any food from the great state of Louisiana is not just about beads and Mardi Gras colors, or Abita beer and jazz music...it is about the food. The ingredients, the preparation and the presentaion as well as all the above mentioned make the food so good and so special. Chateau fell VERY short and we wonder if anyone there has ever even been to New Orleans. We felt like inviting the owner and chef to our house so they could get a taste of REAL CAJUN cooking. Then and only then could the chef/owner understand what is going wrong with their restaraunt. Anyway, they must stay in business because so many people are misled to think that boxed Zatarains is real Cajun food like Taco Bell is real Mexican food. Then there is the prices...OUTRAGEOUS!!! $12 for a bowl of red beans and rice?!?! I can make enough for 10 people for $12, and make it taste better as well. Anyway, your review was excellent and I hope they heed your advice...my sister and mother and I would be happy to go and show the chef/owner how to make the food right, save money and increase business in one night with our family recipes. Keep up the excellent work, we love your column. Regards, Lee "Andouille" Edler— July 1, 2008 9:41 a.m.
