Why Cinepolis and the La Paloma Didn't Make the Cut
Despite his inability to throw in a paragraph break, "alargent" is right. "I find it hard to recommend a movie theatre that barely shows movies" is wrong.— May 31, 2012 2:45 p.m.
Chernobyl Diaries: No Discovery, No Development, No Surprise
And...the concept is not original. A popular video game called *S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl* came out in 2007. A follow-up, *S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat*, in 2010. You can tell just by the titles that this has been done (and done better — great games). Another great 2010 game, *Metro 2033*, same premise, based on a fairly popular novel, also sold well. The movie guys should have based *Chernobyl Diaries* on one of these — they have a story (esp. *Metro*). Yours in geekness, JHutt— May 31, 2012 2:36 p.m.

The Avengers Are Posers
Great post. I've noticed this for a long time; glad you said it! "Selene" (I had to look that up), à la Kate Beck in *Underworld*, does this. Movie *Batman* does this. Movie *Spider-Man* does this, big time. I think it comes from the comics themselves. It's a way to show in a static image that the character has "landed" from a high jump. That must be shown in one image on the printed page. The movie directors and cinematographers took that on, even though it looks dumb in real life. "LAND HARD! PLANT KNEE AND ONE HAND...PAUSE, PAUSE...NOW KICK ASS!"— April 11, 2012 9:50 p.m.
