iD the Poet released his first solo album in 2005. That same year he assembled the 6 piece experimental Hip Hop/Downtempo/Funk band Genius of Soul. After releasing 3 albums with GOS, iD co-founded Tidepool, a psychedelic Hip Hop group made up of producer/vocalist Dusty Nix, and producer/vocalist LEIF(kolt). iD and Dusty Nix later released the BULLY FREE ep, and the three continue to collaborate on various projects. In recent years, iD the Poet has released (4) instrumental albums, a mixtape, and and is working on a double EP titled "WORK EPIC", set to be released in 2014 on limited edition cassette.
Reviews:
"iD is a dope writer with a highly literate sensibility. Which is to say he raps like some of those Brave, New World-type of books I used to read in school, exposing the savagery of so-called “civil society” - Quan Vu, www.SDRaps.com
"Taken together, his body of work can be looked at not only as continuously evolving, but also as a clear representation of someone who makes music because he loves it." - Seth Combs, CityBeat Magazine
"iD spins intelligent and meaningful rhymes over gratifyingly nerdy samples...in the same vein as Aesop Rock, Slug, and Sage Francis. Is that racist? OK, Saul Williams , too." -San Diego City Beat
"This seven-song EP is a cross-section of roots-hip hop, indy rock and politically-committed soul. GOS is composed of classically-trained and self-taught musicians whose mix of talents have created one of the more original
sounds to come out of the San Diego music scene. GOS makes good use of their love of punk, hip hop, soul, and down-tempo to create a head-nodding yet still thought-provoking sound." -Angela Carone, Culture Lust on www.KPBS.org
"Sleep Now is a refreshingly jazzy album that illustrates how powerful talented
live instrumentation can be in hip-hop...Genius of Soul mix mellow, funky keys
and guitars with solid rhyming to make this a perfect light-hearted, summertime
listen" -Sohrob Nikzad, SD CityBeat
"...chilled-out smoky lounge jazz sound combined with some slick
lyricism...There’s nothing amateurish going on here, just the work of some true
to form geniuses" -SpaceCadetz.com
