Little Italy’s big — massive redevelopment
Marco is a scammer. his failed attempt to do something similar in golden hill was deceptive and manipulative. when we stopped him, he commented disdainfully that golden hill was not "ready." thank goodness.— January 28, 2018 9:14 a.m.
Marco Li Mandri wants to get around Prop 13
Li Mandri is the sort of...character who thrives in the interstices between government and business. He sneered when I suggested at an early community meeting that the Golden Hill MAD was illegally instituted. People like him are shocked whenever we try to hold them to account. How dare mere taxpayers object to their dealings?— April 27, 2012 5:07 p.m.
Will Golden Hill Residents Have to Pay for Their Now-Defunct Maintenance Assessment District?
I want my money back.— March 17, 2012 6:34 p.m.
Judgment Finalized In Legal Battle Over Golden Hill Maintenance Assessment District
Take it as an example of how rotten local government is. The survey that led to the vote on the MAD was misleading. The vote was illegally conducted. It was, in fact, thinly disguised fraud. The use of funds was corrupt. It's a miracle and a testament to the persistence of a few that the scumbags behind this MAD are not still rolling in our tax dollars. -michael christian (yeah, that's my real name, and i live in golden hill.)— February 10, 2012 9:39 a.m.
The After-MAD in Golden Hill
Death to the Golden Hill MAD!— October 23, 2011 4:06 p.m.
Mad About Getting Rid of MAD
Are you kidding me? If you take the city's bogus "votes" out of the equation, we residents of golden hill voted AGAINST the rainbows and unicorns version of the MAD. Just guess how we feel about the real-world version of the MAD. "The beneficial services you have come to expect...such as graffiti removal, refuse collection from public waste containers, tree maintenance, street and sidewalk cleanup and large litter removal, will come to an end unless you speak up." Allow me to translate from self-interested, politicized sleaze-ball into plain English: "The services you already pay for with your property taxes can be enhanced with vain gestures (such as imperceptible graffiti removal, weird dudes poking around public waste containers, and annoying dudes with loud blowers pushing dust from the gutter to your car and driveway) that justify our tossing your money around. This will come to an end unless you're a sucker and beg to keep paying extra taxes. -michael christian— October 5, 2011 8:26 p.m.
Golden Hill Residents Aren't MAD Anymore
I tried corresponding with Gloria on this topic. He was dismissive at best. This MAD was rotten since before day one. The very survey they used to get it on the ballot was misleading to the point of fraud. I'm a Harvard-trained lawyer, and it took me some close reading before I realized that it was a tax increase, as opposed to merely rainbows, butterflies, and unicorns. Think about this: a tax levy that is very small and very local was still enough money to provoke greed, dishonesty, waste, and litigation. Just image what happens when billions are involved. Leviathan indeed. -michael christian— September 25, 2011 8:34 a.m.
Golden Hill CDC Late to Submit Audit for MAD Funds
the Golden Hilll MAD is a disaster. I live in Golden Hill. It costs me money and does NOTHING that I want.— July 27, 2011 8:46 a.m.
Spread the Wealth
I live in Golden Hill. The MAD has done nothing for me but raise my property taxes. That's bad enough. But some of the money is being illegally spent. That's worse. We should repeal this thing. -Michael— May 2, 2010 4:06 p.m.
The state of San Diego wineries
Hey wineguy, I basically agree with you; when the local wines are cheap they are awful. Sometimes they are awful even when they aren't cheap. However, they good ones are only "too expensive" because of market conditions. I have never seen a San Diego wine retailing for more than $35/bottle. But I have tasted some that are better than $100 bottles of Napa. In other words, some of our wines have the quality and rarity to command high prices. The difference is that they don't have the reputation or the marketing to support those prices. That is going to change.— April 19, 2010 10:53 a.m.
