Pizza and the Power Plant
If you want the real story, then take the time to learn and print the truth. The Mayor, the council, and the city staff have devoted every possible effort in protecting the safety and health of the citizens most impacted by this plant. In reality, few, if any, of the citizens located closest to the existing plant have ever voiced any concern over the expansion. Regardless, the city has gone to great lengths to reach a viable solution and yet the only story that ever gets printed is the story of the same 60 activists that oppose every development anywhere in Chula Vista. A city of some 250,000 plus residents has an obligation to serve the whole city's best interest not the 60 activists with self-serving needs. The current project is operated under a thirty year conditional use permit and can continue to operate under those conditions which are far less stringent than those proposed under the expansion. Therein lies the fallacy of the EHC's whole argument. Improve the current conditions or remain status quo. Please take the time to read MMC's presentation (a copy will gladly be provided) and try to understand the city is protecting its citizens contrary to the misleading statements continuously bantered at ever publio hearing. As for as Mr Salazar's quote regarding LaJolla and Rancho Bernardo would never let this happen, I can't speak for them first hand, but I can tell you we were approved by the city of Escondido four months ago to do a similar repower at our existing facility with no public outcry and no opposition.— August 14, 2008 8:14 p.m.
