U-T Circulation Continues Fall. Ditto for Other Southern California Dailies
Don: When do you think the U-T will do away with the printed edition and be available online only? Gekko— May 2, 2010 2:02 p.m.
Surprise: Union-Tribune Solicits Employee Suggestions
Don: I saw the name of Pat Marrinan in the story at the top. I can't believe he still works there. I always thought he and Gene Bell had the same hatred toward unions. Think of the irony here. Bell was responsible for getting most of the unions to decertify. This made the U-T more easy to sell. When it sold the new owners got rid of Bell. So he engineered his own downfall. gekko— February 14, 2010 6:53 p.m.
U-T Names Online Specialist as Editor
Response to post #14 Don: Jim Murray was with the L.A. Times. gekko— February 14, 2010 6:20 p.m.
U-T Names Online Specialist as Editor
Don: Are you aware that the U-T did not send a sports columnist to cover the Super Bowl? The only stories were by beat writer Kevin Acee. I heard columnist Nick Canepa on one of the sports talk shows and he said he had been to 26 previous Super Bowls. You could hear the disapointment in his voice. How tight are the purse strings? They are now selling ads on the front page of the paper. What's next? gekko— February 14, 2010 4:17 p.m.
U-T Names Online Specialist as Editor
Response to post #9. I agree. The Herald Examiner had a great sports section. Durslag and Krikorian were great writers. gekko— February 14, 2010 4:07 p.m.
Surprise: Union-Tribune Solicits Employee Suggestions
Response to post #12 WorkOut, intended to streamline and simplify existing processes and eliminate non-value added work, foundered shortly after a rank-and-file circulation employee publicly upbraided Karin Winner about the lack of effectiveness of the newsroom. HellcatCopley: Who was the rank-and-file circulation employee you mention? This person had some brass stones. What department did you work in? Gekko— February 14, 2010 3:18 p.m.
Teamsters Write U-T Advertisers Seeking Support
Don: It was great talking to you Thursday night. Gekko— October 8, 2009 9:27 p.m.
U-T to Stay in Mission Valley for Now; Vows Return to Profitability
Response to #34. Don: Gene Bell may have received the credit for getting the Guild to decertify but in reality it was the Guild members who cut their own throat by decertifying. Gene Bell never forced them. They did it themselves. Over the years, I heard hundreds of Guild members boast that the Guild never did anything for them. I wonder what they think now? If there was still a union contract, employees like David Hasemyer, Tom Krasovic, David Coddon and other longtime employees would still be employed.— August 30, 2009 5:50 p.m.
Rumors: More Layoffs at U-T
Response to #22. Don: It might be easier to list the remaining employees than those who were let go.— August 30, 2009 5:15 p.m.
Rumors: More Layoffs at U-T
Don: Can you get the names of the 192 who were let go in May?— August 16, 2009 9:33 p.m.
