Bob Mitchell
Bob was Best Man at my wedding. I met Bob in 1981. I had just arrived in Cardiff by the Sea, Ca from Colo. We were introduced by a mutual friend. We wound up snorting our way to an all nighter with never a gap in the conversation. It was like we had known each other for years. My first weekend in Jacumba the big house on the hill at the end of the road was a two room cabin with a sunken living room and an oversized fireplace. It was cozy. I had moved to Newport Beach and Jacumba was my getaway. Bob always made me feel welcome and we never had a loss of things to talk about. And like the author says it always felt like we were picking up from what we had talked about the day before. There was always some new business plan to hammer through. I loved Jacumba. The Hotel was still in business, before the fire. There was a little bookstore call the Chocolate Factory where I met some great artists. A David Bayes still hangs on our wall. We went horse back riding by moonlight. Spent endless hours at the diner. Bob got me into gliding which I never thought I would do. And then Bob always had a place to crash when he was up my way. I miss him. Thanks for the nice things you said about Bob in your article you nailed him pretty good as I remember and thanks for letting me re live some fond memories writing this.
