Fraud Possible in Calexico Unified School District Bond Expenditures
The Brown Act items for discussion needs to be revised and limited. The Public doesn't really know what is discussed in Closed Session. Too many times it seems that other than Closed Session allowed discussions do occur. Just another opportunity to avoid "checks and balances" and accountability.— July 27, 2012 6:24 a.m.
Fraud Possible in Calexico Unified School District Bond Expenditures
The lack of accountability and checks and balances creates the opportunity to divert funds without proper authorization. We are discussing how it happens/happened with Bond money. The other two areas where there is possible "misspending" are Supplement Employee Retirement Plans and unreported pay raises granted within Administration. Calexico Unified raised class size and wrote a plan to provided an incentive for teachers to retire. How the then Superintendent and several Administrators became eligible for the same incentive also merits a close scrutiny.— July 25, 2012 4:32 p.m.
Did Calexico Unified School District Need a Lawyer and a Lobbyist?
Thank you Susan for your reporting. The article from our local newspaper says according to our Imperial County Superintendent that the "attorneys" are working on the Waiver appeal. That is correct because through Public Records request I received the legal firm's invoices totaling over $26,000. Their work/invoices on the Waiver appeal covered the period of 6 months. Then the Board approves a "lobbyist" at $30,000 for one month does not make sense financially. The County Superintendent wants the advance repaid since it was issued without Board approval. The next Calexico Board meeting agenda for Thursday is posted and there is no mention of her correspondence to the Board.— February 22, 2012 6:59 a.m.
