Oceanside school named after Pablo Tac
In the early 1900s, Father Engelhardt, O.F.M. wrote to the Very Reverend Father Luke Carey, O.F.M., Rector of the Irish Franciscan College in Rome, asking that he make inquiries at Urban College about what happened to Pablo. He responded: “Tac, Paul, California Mexican, born in January, 1822, at the Mission of San Luis Rey, Latin Rite. Entered [Urban College] on September 23, 1834. Studied Grammar, Humanities and Rhetoric from 1834-1840. In the month of December, 1840, he was likewise stricken with a dangerous fever. From 1841 he studied Philosophy. He died the death of the just on December 13, 1841, with remarkable tranquility and cheerfulness of mind, from consumption [tuberculosis]” ( Zephyrin Engelhardt. *Mission San Luis Rey*. San Francisco: The James H. Barry Co., 1921 (86)). Pablo Tac's short life continues to inspire as attested by Catholics and people of good will who have signed the petition to nominate Pablo Tac for the cause of canonization (full disclosure, the petition @ [www.change.org/InvokePabloTac][1] was started by the author of "Oceanside school named after Pablo Tac").
